Education & Learning
Draken is more than a ship. It is also a platform for learning through exploration, seamanship, craftsmanship, and real-world experience.Education & Learning
Draken offers educational value in many forms, from live online learning and public engagement to sail training and the development of future learning collaborations. By connecting history, the sea, science, teamwork, and practical experience, Draken helps bring learning to life in a way that is memorable and human.
Learning through real experienceDraken creates opportunities to learn through real voyages, real craftsmanship, and real challenges. The ship provides a rare platform for understanding seamanship, history, teamwork, resilience, navigation, the marine environment, and the relationship between people and the sea.
Online learning and outreachDraken has participated in online educational programming that connects audiences directly to the ship and the people behind it. Through collaborations, including with the Canadian organization Exploring By The Seat of Your Pants, thousands of students and viewers have experienced the ship, asked questions, and engaged with themes such as exploration, ocean life, history, and life at sea.
Sail trainingLearning aboard Draken is also practical. Through sail training and onboard participation, people gain hands-on experience of teamwork, responsibility, seamanship, and the realities of operating a large traditional Viking vessel.
Future developmentDraken is also exploring future educational collaborations and learning formats. This includes ongoing dialogue with organizations like FIRST Scandinavia regarding the development of educational materials and STEM-related learning opportunities in which Draken may serve as a learning module.
