A meaningful way to become part of Draken

Volunteering for Draken is an excellent way to get to know the crew, the ship, and the people around the project. It can also be a valuable path for those who later hope to be selected as crew on board.

At the same time, volunteering is also for those who may not want to sail themselves, but still want to contribute to this remarkable project through practical work, maintenance, preparation, and support.

Why volunteer with Draken

A project like Draken depends not only on a professional crew and sailing deckhands, but also on dedicated volunteers who help support the life of the ship.

Volunteering offers a hands-on way to contribute while learning more about the vessel, the work behind it, and the wider community that keeps the project moving forward.

No prior experience is required, though knowledge of wooden ships, maintenance work, or related crafts is a plus. We look for people who are practical, reliable, physically and mentally fit, and able to work well as part of a team.

Practical information

We will generally provide volunteers with meals and accommodation. Volunteers are responsible for their own transportation to and from the location.

Requirements

• 18 years or older

• Good physical and mental health

• Allowed to do volunteer work in the country where the volunteering takes place

• Maintenance & Ship Preparations May 2026
  Kopervik, Norway
  From May 3rd to May 13th, we will conduct routine maintenance and need volunteers to help keep Draken in sailing condition. Tasks will include tarring, rigging, painting, rope work, repairs, and other general maintenance. Interested in joining? Fill out the application form below.
